Kappa kappa gamma or KKI was founded at Monmouth college of Illinois and there was no date which was determined as the foundation day so the 1876 convention voted the foundation day on October 13th in 1870 and it is one of the oldest societies with Greek letter which is in existence now. The founding members were Hannah Jeannette Boyd, Mary Moore steward, Anna Elizabeth Willits, Mary Louise Bennett, Martha Louisa Stevenson and Susan burley walker.
Kappa kappa gamma is one of the famous and largest women fraternities in America and there are chapters in the United States and Canada. The recent chapter make it the 136th in winter of 2009. It has more than 300 alumnae associations around the world and more than 225,000 members.
Kappa kappa gamma is basically a fraternity for women and the reason behind it is that it was founded before the use of term sorority. But as it has only female members, it is often called sorority. The objective of kappa kappa gamma is to seek friendship, mutual support, self growth, intellect and ethical principles for every member throughout their lives after membership. It provide scholarship programs for academic fulfilment which means that each member should get their personal academic best which is provided with suitable atmosphere.
