Traditional Baptism

It is the ancient custom of Christians to wear white on the baptism day. Even today it is the practice in many families to wear Christian clothing for the function. The baby is dressed in white depicting purity. The function is attended by friends and relatives. The god parents are named. The infant is christened. The infant is held by his parents and questions asked are answered. Many varieties of clothes are available these days for the babies like baptism gowns, bins, blankets etc. It is his special day and he is spoiled with baptism gifts.

Traditionally the gifts given are bibles, books, drinking cups, picture frames and jewelry. A more thoughtful gift would be a savings bond or gift check. The gift should be something to remember the occasion by. Godparent gifts are very dear to children and hence they should be selected very carefully and thoughtfully. The gift presented should ideally be personalized so that the baby remembers it forever. The process of Baptism allows the child to enter the Church of Christianity. The event is usually celebrated on Sunday Mass but special days can be booked for it. The priest of the Church baptizes the infant and names him on the day.
